The Bridge and the River
The semi circular arch (9 m. wide, with a span of 17 m) spans the river Ilay and rests directly upon the rock. It is the only link between the two banks and therefore the old and new parts of the city. The river allows a steady flow of commercial traffic, overseen by the Guild of Watermen. These people transport goods on rafts buoyed by air-filled goatskins, thus commodities travel downstream to the coast. The Guild of Watermen is the most influential organisation in Ilayson.
